Privacy Policy for Solar Compass Pro

Solar Compass Pro helps you understand sun position, plan solar opportunities, organize sites and panel setups, and estimate potential output. This policy describes the current app from C. Ray Carroll LLC.

The short version: Solar Compass Pro has no developer account system, advertising, analytics, or cross-app tracking. Your saved planning data stays on your device. Coordinates and search terms are sent to Apple services only when required for WeatherKit forecasts, place lookup, App Store update checks, or purchases.

1. What the App Does

Solar Compass Pro provides features that may include:

  • real-time solar azimuth, elevation, sunrise, sunset, solar noon, and daily path
  • Today, Tomorrow, and optional 7-day weather-backed solar outlooks
  • saved sites with multiple panel setups, direction, tilt, watts, losses, notes, and photos
  • estimated output ranges, hourly curves, energy goals, setup comparisons, and optimizer guidance
  • Install Mode using live compass heading and device tilt
  • shareable solar outlook cards and optional local alerts

2. Information C. Ray Carroll LLC Does Not Collect

We do not operate a server that receives or stores your saved Solar Compass Pro data.

  • No Solar Compass Pro account is created.
  • No advertising or third-party analytics SDK is included.
  • No behavioral profile or cross-app tracking identifier is created.
  • Your saved sites, setups, notes, photos, goals, and preferences are not sold to third parties.

3. Location

With your permission, the app requests location access while in use. Current coordinates are used to calculate sun position and daylight timing, obtain weather forecasts, label the current place, and seed a site you choose to save.

You can also add a site using a place name or latitude and longitude. Saved site names, coordinates, time zones, favorites, and creation dates are stored locally on the device.

4. Compass and Motion Sensors

Compass heading is used in real time to orient the sun pointer and provide heading guidance in Install Mode. Device-motion gravity data is used to estimate phone tilt for the tilt helper. These live sensor readings are not written into a history or sent to C. Ray Carroll LLC.

Heading and tilt can be affected by calibration, nearby metal, magnetic interference, the device case, and how the phone is held.

5. Apple WeatherKit

Solar Compass Pro sends the selected location coordinates to Apple WeatherKit to request current, hourly, and daily weather information. The app uses returned cloud cover, precipitation chance, visibility, sunrise, sunset, and related weather data to create solar scores, best-window guidance, forecasts, and output estimates.

Weather requests are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms and privacy policies. C. Ray Carroll LLC does not receive a separate copy of those WeatherKit requests or responses.

6. Apple Place Lookup

When you search for a site name or ask the app to identify coordinates, Solar Compass Pro uses Apple geocoding services. The place name or coordinates needed for that request are sent to Apple, and the returned place name, coordinates, and time zone can be saved locally if you save the site.

7. Data Stored on Your Device

Solar Compass Pro stores the planning information you create locally, including:

  • saved sites, coordinates, time zones, and favorite status
  • panel setup names, direction, tilt, watts, loss profile, icon, notes, and selected setup
  • energy goals and selected goal
  • home-screen order and visibility choices
  • alert preferences, home-layout choices, release acknowledgement, and update-check timing

The current implementation does not synchronize this saved planning data through a C. Ray Carroll LLC server or app-managed cloud account.

8. Setup Photos

If you choose a setup photo through Apple’s system photo picker, the selected image is resized and stored as a JPEG in the app’s local Application Support directory. The image is used only to help you recognize that panel setup and is not uploaded to C. Ray Carroll LLC.

Replacing or deleting a setup photo removes the corresponding local app copy where possible.

9. Optional Local Notifications

If you enable alerts and grant notification permission, the app can schedule local notifications for an approaching peak solar window, a stronger or weaker tomorrow, or an exceptional upcoming solar day. Notification text may include the active site name, time, solar score, or estimated kWh.

These notifications are scheduled on the device. C. Ray Carroll LLC does not operate a push-notification server for Solar Compass Pro.

10. Sharing

When you choose Share, Solar Compass Pro creates an outlook image and text that may include the selected site name—or coordinates when no place name is available—plus dates, forecast ratings, sunrise, sunset, solar noon, golden-hour times, and best-window information.

You choose the destination through the iOS share sheet. Once shared, the receiving app or service handles that content under its own privacy practices.

11. App Store Services and Purchases

The app checks Apple’s public App Store lookup service using its bundle identifier to determine whether a newer version is available. It also uses Apple StoreKit to load, purchase, verify, and restore the optional one-time Supporter unlock for advanced planning tools.

Apple processes purchases and entitlement information. C. Ray Carroll LLC does not receive your full payment card details through the app.

12. Retention and Deletion

Saved data remains in the app’s local storage until you edit or delete it, clear the app’s data, or remove the app. Device backups managed by Apple may retain app data according to your device and Apple Account settings. C. Ray Carroll LLC cannot remotely retrieve or delete local app data for you.

You can delete saved sites, setups, photos, and energy goals in the app; disable alerts; and revoke location or notification permission in iOS Settings.

13. Security

Local planning data is kept within the app’s iOS sandbox and protected by the security of your device and Apple Account. Solar Compass Pro is not a secure vault, and its saved site names, coordinates, notes, setup photos, and preferences should not be treated as encrypted secret storage.

14. Accuracy and Appropriate Use

Solar position, solar scores, recommended direction and tilt, weather-backed output ranges, energy goal coverage, and setup comparisons are calculated estimates. They are not measurements, guarantees of energy production, or substitutes for a qualified solar-site assessment.

Real output can differ because of shade, roof geometry, obstructions, wiring, inverter limits, panel condition, temperature, weather changes, sensor calibration, magnetic interference, and other site-specific factors. Use safe work practices and professional guidance around electrical equipment, roofs, ladders, and permanent installations.

15. Apple Services

Solar Compass Pro relies on Apple platform services such as Core Location, geocoding, WeatherKit, Core Motion, local notifications, the system photo picker, the iOS share sheet, StoreKit, and App Store lookup. Apple’s handling of those services is governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policies.

16. Support Communications

If you contact support by email, C. Ray Carroll LLC receives the information you choose to include so we can respond. Avoid including a precise home location, private setup photo, or other personal information unless it is necessary for your support request.
